From Tuesday 21/2/2023 to Friday 24/2/2023 the 8th Panhellenic Plant Protection Meeting took place, in Larissa, Greece organized by the Region of Thessaly in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food and a number of scientific and geotechnical bodies to discuss the “Plant protection in the context of the European Green Deal”.
Prof Papadopoulos Nikos represented the FruitFlies-IPM Project – EU consortium and presented, during the 1st day of the meeting (Tuesday 21/2), the “Holistic approach to tackling new emerging enemies of fruit trees: the example of the European project FF-IPM”
He referred to the new tools and strategies, which have been developed regarding the management of biological invasions of fruit flies through the FF-IPM project. Emphasis was given to the new integrated pest management system that has been developed and implemented in two areas in Greece, with positive results for the Mediterranean fruit fly management. He also presented results regarding the presence of the Mediterranean fruit fly in central Macedonia. The insect seems to exist in the area in low numbers with a picked population during autumn.
