One of the objectives of the WP4.3 of the FF-IPM Project is to evaluate if the OFF-Season application of entomopathogenic fungi in the soil causes a reduction of medfly emergence in the field.
The Centre de coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement evaluated in laboratory the entomopathogenicity of different Beauveria bassiana strains on Medfly larvae. Now, field experiments started, consisting in releasing a controlled number of larvae into emergence traps, in order to evaluate the fly emergence after the application of the most promising fungus strain (GHA). University of Molise team is conducting experimental trials in mixed fruit orchards at two Italian sites, Campomarino (Campobasso) and Paliano (Frosinone).
The procedures used for OFF-season will be repeated during ON-season.
